In trying to determine whether a product contains polish, look for the key words: Shine, Restore, Rejuvenate, Protect, 4-in-1, Like new, etc. All you want to see is Clean. The finish on your hardwood floor is much harder and more durable than any of these other products. If it's shine you're after, you may get exactly that with these polishes, but only temporarily. It will soon become dull in areas and you will either have to keep applying polish every few months - adding layer after layer - or you will have to call a pro to strip it off. And that will cost many times what you paid for the bottle of polish!
YOU ALREADY PUT POLISH ON YOUR FLOOR?
I'm sorry. How does it look? If it's been on awhile you will likely see areas that are kind of shiny and areas that are duller. You might notice that when you walk around in your bare feet you leave footprints on the floor.
So now you want to get it off. You've tried everything but nothing works. So you call someone like me and ask what can be done? Some contractors will just tell you they can't get it off without re-sanding the whole floor at a cost of about $3 per foot. That means that if you have 800 feet, it can be fixed for $2,400! That's about 300 times what you paid for the polish!
Fortunately, there are some of us who will fix the problem without resanding the whole floor and at a cost of about $1.25 per foot. So you only pay about 125 times the cost of the polish. I'm sure that is a great relief!
So if you feel that you just have to do something to maintain and protect your flooring investment, get on your hands and knees with a very soft cloth and wipe down the whole floor. Do it several times a week. It will do absolutely nothing for the floor but at least it won't ruin it and it will make you feel better!
